No library software required. Organise your playlists with plain folders and filenames. Sort or search by BPM, key, genre, and more — straight from your ID3 tags. If you export your Rekordbox playlists to your USB, the Devious Pocket will read these too.

Open Core


Devious is built with NAP, an open source framework for audiovisual tools and automation. The hardware platform is all readymade components – including a HifiBerry DAC.

Alternative software and hardware


Our artisanal software is built with NAP. NAP is the Open Source Framework for ultra fast AV apps that our team developed over the past 10 years. Our hardware assembly consists of readymade components - a 4" high resolution touch screen, a Raspberry Pi (passively cooled micro-computer), and a HifiBerry DAC. This design brings a high degree of repairability and reusability. If you wish, you can remake the components into a new device, and use our framework to write a new application for the device.

Technics-fitted stand


Purpose-built for a Technics turntable, our stand connects with its feet on either side. For most other turntables, the base simply wedges between the deck and the surface beneath it.

Hybrid by design


Our interface is built for hybrid DJing — a best-of-both-worlds feature set that keeps the vinyl feel while acting like a smart digital player. The loop function (1-32 bars) gives you more space to beat match, invites you to layer 3 or more decks with ease, and affords longer transitions. With BPM Lock enabled, newly loaded tracks come in pre-pitched to the set BPM. A pass-through toggle allows for easy switching between digital playback or pure vinyl signal. A digital phono pre-amp is built-in.

  • How is this better than earlier generation Digital Vinyl Systems?


    The key improvements are: no laptop, and true hybrid DJ features. No laptop means at home you have instant & clutter-free digital playback, and in the club your full attention is with the decks and the audience. Additionally, the loop feature and the option to pre-pitch to a locked BPM mean you can focus on the mix in a new way, inviting you to try sets with 3 or 4 turntables.

  • Do I need a laptop?


    All you'll need a computer for is copying files to your USB drive.

  • How do I manage my music library?


    No proprietary software required - just organize your files in folders and copy them to your USB. Devious Pocket reads ID3 tags and offers to sort by title, artist, album, BPM, key, or genre. It also offers search within folders. The Devious also reads playlists exported from rekordbox (check https://docs.nap.works/#playlists for how-to).

  • What file formats are supported?


    Devious Pocket reads all relevant and open file formats: mp3, flac, wav, aif, caf, and ogg. It does not support proprietary formats like AAC.

  • Why does each turntable need a dedicated device?


    "One turntable, one device" means no modes for you to cycle through. Modality is a fast track to mistakes when you're deep in the mix. Dedicated, single-purpose machines are beautiful to us. The modular approach gives DJs more freedom in configuring their hardware setup - some people just need one digital deck, while others like three or four.

  • What time code formats do you support?


    We support Serato 2, Serato CD, Traktor 1, Mixvibes V2, Mixvibes 7 and Pioneer time code formats. We recommend Serato as the technically most reliable control records. Please note: Traktor 1 provides pitch, but not absolute timecode information. This is a limitation of the timecode, not of our system.

  • Does it support Phase DJ?


    Absolutely. Use Phase DJ for pitch, and our track view to move the playhead. Cueing and looping work fully too.

  • Can I use an SSD?


    We currently support all USB attached SCSI drives, including solid state drives, hard drives and sticks.

  • Can I update it?


    Yes, the firmware can be updated over USB by plugging in a drive with the firmware update. The system will run the update on startup when found. This allows us to introduce new features, improve performance and, if necessary: push a fix.

  • What about latency?


    The Devious Pocket significantly outperforms legacy solutions with audio transmission over USB bus. This advantage comes from its hardwired connection between DAC and CPU, eliminating the need to package and unpack audio data through USB frames. Internal processing latency is 0.666 ms; transmission adds roughly 1–2 ms depending on your setup (read more here: https://www.hifiberry.com/blog/techtalk-latency) But there's more to latency than just numbers: the Devious Pocket avoids running a full desktop environment, resulting in a snappier, more responsive experience. Its hardware-accelerated GUI is faster than most alternatives and we use real-time audio scheduling for improved timing and stability. The software is written in C++, using NAP Framework – a real-time control and visualization platform . NAP is developed in-house, and battle tested in production for years. It is is used by us and our partners to power performance critical, large scale interactive installations and embedded solutions world-wide (read more on https://nap-framework.tech)

  • Why no physical buttons?


    We’re passionate about our record player and chose it as the central instrument and control medium, instead of a MIDI controller. This approach also reduces the overall cost of the unit, since we avoid the need to design and produce an expensive hardware interface — speeding up in-house manufacturing and delivery. The touch interface is intuitive and highly responsive, built for real-time use: triggering loops, adjusting the playhead, setting cue points, and browsing or loading files.

  • Is it fast?


    Yes, it is. We have been testing and optimizing the system for months now, and we're known for making highly optimized software for embedded real-time environments. The system that powers the unit (NAP Framework) has been completely developed in house and battle tested for years, not only by us but many others all around the world.

  • Do you support Rekordbox tags?


    Since version 1.2, the Devious Pocket supports playlists (.txt) exported from Rekordbox. Just copy your playlist files anywhere on the USB, the device will read them – just like music folders, but without the file duplication.
